According to a March 2006 article posted on Online Dating Industry Journal1, Spark Networks used to operate a dating site targed specifically to g-a-y-s and l-e-s-b-i-a-n-s but around the time they acquired the Christian family of sites headed by ChristianMingle.com, they shut G-l-i-m-p-s-e.com down. , when they shut down Glimpse.com, they moved the accounts over to their AmericanSingles.com dating site. This seems to indicate they weren't getting out of the g-a-y / l-e-s-b-i-a-n business at all, just doing it more discreetly. Here is a quote from Gail Laguna, the vice president for communications at Spark Networks, the parent company of Relationships.com, commenting on the addition of s-a-m-e--s-e-x searches to JDate.com, one of their other sites:
Even Relationships.com, their "Christian" dating site, allows s-a-m-e--s-e-x searches, once you create an account and log in. (click here for screenshot of search page). A simple search for the word "l-e-s-b-i-a-n" turned up nine matches, some of which were had been on the site for over two months. (Click here for screen shot of search results). In my opinion, based on over eleven years of experience designing and building Websites, it is very simple to catch and eliminate these profiles, assuming you want to. Ads for AmericanSingles.com promoting g-a-y / l-e-s-b-i-a-n relationships have been placed on several websites. Click here to search Google and see for yourself. Go to the homepage at http://www.date.co.uk and do the following search:
Then do the same search with men seeking men. Look at the profiles. These are people who have identified themselves as women seeking women and men seeking men and Spark identifies them in way in their profiles. Another of their websites, CollegeLuv.com, used to include the g a y / l e s b i a n option on the signup form, as well as "open relationships." (Click here for a screenshot showing the signup page before they removed this feature.) As a follower of Christ, you need to ask yourself if you should be doing business with a company like this.
